Finally, a challenging but crucial part of our mission is to spread technology and minimally invasive surgery in developing and low budget countries and hospitals. We strongly believe that technology and innovations are not a luxury reserved for the privileged only. The Technology committee recently embraced new figures in the field of engineering to plan direct R&D activity sponsored from grants at a European level. 10. Stefania Marconi (Italy) 11. Pietro Valdastri (UK) These regard the design of novel technologies, especially in the field of robotics and miniaturisation of tools, as well as in the field of novel technologies for training. Moreover, the committee increased the activity of health technology assessment and prepa- ration of consensus conferences in the field of inno- vative technologies, so to guide those colleagues who get acquainted with new technologies about their correct use.
