11 Word from the President-Elect Word from the President-elect Dear colleagues, dear friends, EAES 2019 in Sevilla was really an “Exciting, Amazing, Enterprising and Stimulating” congress. That was the main theme of this annual congress and I am so proud to let you know that the congress in beautiful Sevilla covered its main goals with enthusiasm. Surgeons and engineers from each single corner of the planet made Sevilla to be the capital of Innovation in Minimally Invasive Surgery. More than 1.500 attendees, one of the largest EAES congresses ever, met in an impressive venue to explore “the pathway to the future” in which our society is a leader. New robots, platforms, visualisation systems and instruments, the future related to artificial intelligence, the role of image-guided surgery and flexible endoscopy in our operating rooms and all innovations in each of the different fields of general and digestive surgery were presented in this congress in a friendly environment, looking forward to open the mind of the attendees to the future. Sevilla was so proud to host this congress. Sevilla was what promised, a city to discover, to imagine, to get excited and to enjoy. The cultural heritage of this town accompanied the scientific activity leaving a mark in the hearts of the attendees that will be difficult to forget. It was a pleasure to host the EAES…it was a pleasure to host the innovation…it was a pleasure to host in this friendly environment a community of surgeons and engineers who are willing to develop a minimally invasive way to perform surgery and to make it safer, more effective and, at the same time, more adapted to the needs of our planet and to the ultimate goal of being a doctor and a surgeon, more human. Surgery is exciting and the EAES reminds us every day of this aspect…and Sevilla in 2019 was the place to explore this message.
